the preemie christmas hats
I have launched a new club for creating hats for kids who have cancer. You may come crochet, knit, sew, or add embellishment to a purchased hat. Decorated hats for donation to the Children's Hospital in Atlanta. They are one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country. Also we will donate preemie hats locally to the North East Georgia Medical Center and Gwinnett Medical Center.
Hats for Halos---- This will be a great opportunity to lift someone's spirit while we are gathering together. Please use the link below to be added to the e-mail list for the club.
You do need to know how to crochet the basic stitches so if you don't know how--- make an appointment for the easy wash cloth class ($10) and you will be on your way. (The next class has not been scheduled) -- from 2-4 just drop in. I will also have another class on ( )at the same time. Please call me or e-mail me for type of yarn and hook size. This way I won't be taking up all of my time teaching you how to crochet. I can enjoy the group. I also teach knitting classes.
The club will meet 1st Monday each month 10 -12:00 and there will be no charge for attending.
An afternoon session will be for kids in school meeting 5:30-6:30 All ages are welcome. I will help you read your pattern or with stitches. I have some other ideas and patterns to share if you do not have an idea. Give me some feedback.
The knitting loom shown below is a great way for you and your children to participate in the club if you do not know how to knit. One of my mothers (Alisha S.) has learned this skill and is making hats after just one week. I will add a picture here next week of some of her hats. She has even taught her husband.
I hope this sounds interesting to you. Please list this page on some of your e-mail loops and let's get some good response.
Beginning of a hat using peaches and cream cotton yarn on size k crochet hook. You will need a stitch marker. I will be posting 2 of the patterns see next page.
The cards to attach to the hats.
Looks like a mess but, lots of things are happening here!!!
Betty M from Flowery Branch made us 92 hats 52 pictured here for the kids at Scottish Rites.
Corey models one of the colorful hats.
Alpaca yarn donated by GA Alpacas, Caroline M. Below see my Dad trying to run a hank on his commercial swifts putting the yarn on a cone. Not a good match. We will need to get a table top swift to use for making balls of yarn. The alpaca is too soft and fragile for any waste.
The ladies from the meeting on 3/2 collecting hats. Betty made 92 hats. Corey made 4. Celia made 5. Stepanie made 3 knitted hats. Peggy made 7 hats. Anita made 15 hats. Darleene mailed in 5 hats. Diane H dropped off 16 hats and has more to bring over. And I have completed 22 hats. We will deliver them on 3/8.
Kim Pace - Neonatial Intensive Care director- We delivered 112 hats, 12 pair of booties, 18 little pillows and 11 bumpers. They were so happy with our gift. We will be sewing some little pilowcases next. Call me if you are interested in helping.
Also if you cannot come to the meeting or group meetup you may help us long distance. Please mail your hats to:

I just received a thank you note from Scottish Rites Children's Hospital thanking me for the "AWESOME" hats. We sent 42 more hats 1/16
The ladies in Homer, GA, who I met with and started them making hats have written me an e-mail and informed me of donating 262 hats to their hospital and nursing homes. Way to go!!!
Some of the nursing home people were so thankful they did not want to remove them. Yea!!! someone wants to wear our hats.
The preemie hats will be going to our local North East Georgia Hospital. We have about 75 little hats and are ready to give some away in early March. Call me if you have hats to donate.
