Art in the Summer Time  2008

Summer classes have come to an end. Please e-mail me for the fall schedule to be ready in August.

As samples are completed I will load the pictures and descriptions. See calendar for a complete list of classes and dates.

Wow, here comes another summer! We had a great group of kids participate in art last summer. And looking forward to this year. You can see some of the summer photos on the photo gallery page.

5 classes will cost you $150 that's $25per class plus $25 registration fee. After April 16 registration fee goes up to $50 making the 5 classes total $175


I am offering 8 Tuesdays of drawing class plus 2 additional classes as a special this summer. 10 classes will cost you $250. There would be no supply fee. Saving you $100. WOW!!! A great bargain. You purchase your own drawing supplies and the drawing sea creatures book. Bring your own colored pencils or watercolor pencils. I will supply the rest.

* Classes are 2&1/2 hours long
* There are 2 sessions per day morning 9:30-12 and afternoon 3:30-6
* There are 36 classes to choose from. Take one or 36 classes.
* Classes are open to all persons who have the ability to complete the task. Younger than 6 you must accompany them. I have 6-8 of the classes I can recommend for the younger children. Please e-mail me.
*Classes will be canceled if there is not enough participation. I will notify you and allow you to choose another class or refund your money.

*Class fee is $ 25 per class  plus $5 snack and supplies (from the registration fee.)

Summer classes begin on 6/3. If you did not pre-register you may call to see if space is available at the last min. This will cost $ 30 per class. ($30 class fee plus supplies or purchase your own canvas )

6/3, 6/10, 6/17, 6/24, 7/1, 7/8, 7/8 Drawing Sea Creatures- 7 weeks of drawing class during the summer-  Each week we will learn to draw our creatures ( a different one each week) our first hour of class and then we will create a color picture using watercolor pencils. A workshop in drawing and painting where we will gain a good knowlege blending and shading in graphite and watercolor pencils.  You will need to purchase your book at Hobby lobby and bring your drawing supplies. (A selection of hard and soft pencils, drawing pad, blender, watercolor pencils and a watercolor pad) Use the on line coupon to buy your book at 40% off. Regular price of the book is $4.99.   
Anslie and Lydia have taken drawing over the year and continue to create great artwork.

6/4 Pottery #1--- Students will work with wet clay to make their designs. Use techniques such as coil pot, stamping, making tiles,a bird bath or a sculpture design. Students are encouraged to bring in their own ideas and examples or look at my examples. Hand made pottery makes a great gift at any time of the year.

6/5- Who who who's ready for summer fun???-- I am soo ready!!!!! Today's project is a sleepy owl wall art. Use my colors or choose your own. About 16" high.


6/9 & 6/12  Build & decorate a birdhouse--If your child wants to assemble a birdhouse you may have to attend with them to assist them in hammering, cutting, screwing etc. This would be a great time for both of you. And any of you who have seen my birdhouses they are not basic.( see more designs on the gift tab) I want the kids to use their imagination. The license plate design has a plexie glass window! If you have a bird nesting in this house you can peek in the window from a distance. I mostly have car tags to use so, if you want a specialty tag like the GA tag then you will need to purchase it and bring it to the class. Dad or Granddad tags will only be ordered for those who pre-register.


6/11  Pottery #2--After first firing the pottery which I do for the students. We will glaze their artwork pieces using our selection of over 70 different colors. Students will need to arrange another time to pick up pieces after 2nd firing process has been completed.

6/13  Dad plaques-Today we will be making a sign just for DAD or Mama!!! You can make your own message or copy mine. You are the best Dad or Mom in the World. Long after other presents are forgotten, the ones you made for parent may still be in use.

6/16- Patriotic Cat - What a fun way to express the red white and blue in you! A folk art cat!!
Finished size measures 11" x 21" and lots of personality! See what your child can create!

Kate paints on her very patriotic cat. She wants to take hers to the 4th of July celebration. " I bet no one will have something like this" --Kate age 7




6/18--Painting a  Crazy Folk art Bird- Using some found materials and some new things too. We will make this wonderful garden bird. I think I will need to have a family of folk art birds for my garden. Copy my design or use your own colors. About 16" tall

A lot went on today--- painting, cutting, drilling, gluing, the kids did a great job. See their pictures under today's photos.


6/19 & 7/2 USA Flag Folk Art--- I have done several flag designs for the Fourth decorations. This design uses plant stakes! It will look great in your yard to celebrate all the patrotic holidays. And everyone on the block will want one too. Measures 10" x 18" we will be making the larger one.
See mine at the top of the drive. Looks great.

6/25-- Big Bubbles & Buckets.-- This is a day designed with the little kids in mind. We will use our drawing supplies to learn to draw and shade bubbles. Then we will paint buckets with our designs. How about mixing up some bubble stuff and making big bubbles for the afternoon.

6/26- Sewing Stuffed Friends. We had a one on one day this morning with the sewing lesson. We had a super time. We picked fabric, sewed on the machine, backstitched, pinning, and a little hand sewing.

 6/27 Give a Dog a BONE!!!-painting on canvas

Kailin, Carrie and Connor busy painting the background of their  paintings. We finally got rain and we listened to the rain falling on the sky lights. It was a great afternoon for painting.

6/30 - Watermelon Sign for Summer afternoon only - This is for the little ones. Let's have fun with this design. We will have watermelon on the deck for our snack.

7/2-- Another RW&Blue day with Flags and Uncle Sam--
How many stars can I fit on my garden flag? Great job girls. We were busy all day.

7/14-- How would you give a Frog a bath? On the back of a pink elephant of course.!!!

Busy, busy, busy-- The girls painting on their artwork. We had a great time.



7/16 Self portrait study in collage.- What a fun day we had creating these wonderful self portraits. The girls mom-Katie watched me do one and then just had a blast making her own. Bring special items to make this artwork all your own. I have plenty of glue and some add in items but, search around and bring some things special to you. Be sure to plan out your idea before class so we will be sure to finish. Enlarge your photo and bring in a xerox so it is not quite so thick as photo paper. I have the canvas if you pre-register. (12 x 12 )

7/17 --Crazy Cat Cut out-- Paint your cat any way you want. I have 3 shapes to choose from the red cat is 30" x 12. It is a really big cat.      A new design this year is the green cat but, paint yours whatever color you choose.   Great for room art. The smaller cat shown with it's tail out and fuffy measures about 23" x 12".

7/18  A lesson in drawing hands and painting Folk Art Pointing Fingers-You will need to bring your own drawing supplies for the first hour of class when we will learn different angles of the hand. Then we will change focus and create a lively 3-d folkart design.  I have cut out shapes of pointing fingers on the ban saw and  I will have the kids paint them however they like. Great for room decoration.
This art work is 5: x 15" cut from wood.
someone liked mine so much they stole them!

7/22 The Sailboats of Lake Lanier-  for later in the summer -    
Drawing--Today let's learn the many types of sailboats on Lake Lanier. We will spend the first hour drawing and then paint the sailboats using water colors (pencils). Photo to come later.

7/23- Simple Cat on canvas- this will be a good day for the little ones.( 11 x 14 ) morning only.
7/23 Afternoon only -- Some time you just got to SCREAM!!!
Lets give this favorite cartoon character at try. You will need a 16 x 20 streched canvas.

7/24  Rise & Shine-- folkart-- we are nearing the end of lazy summer days. Decorate with this cheery good morning sign. A sleepy sun rise sunshine with a cheery rise and shine slogan. A great folkart project for anyone and maybe grumpy won't come around. Mom's you may want to do this one when the kids get back in school.
